Matt Fleming, who led Bangor High School to the 2019 Class A basketball state championship, is headed back to Maine.

The 6-foot-6 forward, who this season attended the United States Military Academy Preparatory School at West Point, New York, is transferring to the University of Maine.

The development was first reported by VerbalCommits.com and was confirmed by Fleming’s mother, Gretchen Fleming.

Fleming will be eligible to play immediately and will have four years of eligibility because of his prep school status at Army.

Fleming’s older brother Andrew recently completed an outstanding career at UMaine, where he scored more than 1,400 points and grabbed 700-plus rebounds.

Matt Fleming was a Bangor Daily News All-Maine first-team selection last season, when he averaged 22 points, 11 rebounds and four assists to help coach Brad Libby’s Rams claim the state championship.

He also earned the Mr. Maine Basketball and Maine Gatorade Player of the Year honors as a senior at Bangor.
