State police investigating body found in Bingham parking lot

By Andrew Neff, BDN Staff

BINGHAM, Maine — A neighbor discovered the body of a man lying face down in the driveway of a Baker Street residence Sunday morning, but police are not yet categorizing the death as suspicious.

Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesman Stephen McCausland confirmed Sunday afternoon that Maine State Police have taken over the investigation of the apparently unattended death from Somerset County Sheriff’s Department officials.
“Detectives have not put the death in any category other than under investigation,” McCausland said at 5:30 p.m. Sunday. “An autopsy will likely be performed on Monday or Tuesday with results forthcoming.”

Maine State Police have identified the man as 61-year-old Ernest Sayers of Haverhill, Mass.

Sayers was in Bingham this weekend visiting his girlfriend, who lives on Baker Street. He was elsewhere in Bingham Saturday night playing cards with friends and decided to walk home afterward. A neighbor found Sayers’ body in the driveway at 7:30 a.m.
