More than seven months after it announced its intention to move, beer, wine and liquor store Damon’s Beverage and Redemption will close its location on Washington Street in downtown Bangor on Feb. 28, and move to a new location near the Bangor Mall.

Damon’s will move to the former location of the Bangor K-Mart, and plans to open there sometime in early March. The business had originally hoped to open on Hogan Road in November, but the date was pushed to March sometime last fall.

The new space will allow Damon’s to double in size, and offer greatly expanded parking for both the retail store and redemption center. Presently, Damon’s shares extremely limited parking with a number of other businesses in the Penobscot Plaza complex, including Hero’s Sports Grill and Dunnett Appliance and Mattress.

The former K-Mart, located at 688 Hogan Road, briefly housed an indoor flea market after K-Mart closed in 2017. It has been empty for most of the pandemic, however. The building, which includes three separate store fronts, is owned by the Quirk family, owners of Quirk Auto Group.

Other Damon’s stores are located in Augusta, Waterville and Skowhegan.
