The crowd that gathered at the Augusta Civic Center on Saturday night was not disappointed.
Nokomis standout Cooper Flagg didn’t score his first points in the Class A North quarterfinal game against Messalonskee until 1:10 into the second quarter. But that basket came in dramatic fashion in the form of an alley-oop slam dunk fed to Flagg by Alex Grant.
It was the first of two slam dunks by Flagg in the contest. He scored another one in the fourth quarter off a rebound.
Nokomis teammate also joined the dunk party, scoring his own in the fourth quarter after Flagg blocked a shot by an opposing Messalonskee player.
Flagg amassed 13 points, 10 rebounds, 11 assists, five blocked shots, several steals and two slam dunks in Nokomis’ 57-29 victory. Teammate Madden White scored 26 points and Flagg’s twin brother Ace added 12 points and six rebounds.
Nokomis (18-1) secured its 17th consecutive victory and now will face Cony of Augusta (13-6) in Wednesday night’s semifinals.
