ELLSWORTH – Ellsworth Tennis Center hosts the Chris Angell Cup. Back after a two-year hiatus, this junior tennis tournament will be held  at the Ellsworth Tennis Center, 35 Eastward Lane on Saturday, March 12. Players in the 14-,16-, and 18-age groups will play in a round robin format. Each player is assured of playing three matches during the one day event with trophies to the boys and girls winners and runners up. This USTA-sanctioned tournament will count towards ranking points for tournament players and is a good warmup for high school players about to start their spring tennis season.

Angell was Maine’s top player for several years running while suffering from Paranoid Schizophrenia. The tournament and the companion Angell Open in Portland May 6-8 is held to support and bring awareness to the need for mental health treatment. Applicants can enter through the USTA website at https://playtennis.usta.com/tournaments. For more information, contact the club at 207-664-0400 or Tournament Director Hugo Bell-Greene at 585-404-6465.
