A local man died early Sunday morning when his SUV struck a tree in Oxford.

The Sun Journal reports that Robert Teeple, 61, was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer on Skeetfield Road, near the Oxford Pines Mobile Homes Park, about 4:30 a.m. when he crossed into the opposite lane and struck a tree.

Teeple died in the crash, and his passenger, 35-year-old John Buck of Oxford, was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, where he remained in critical condition Monday, the newspaper reports.

Teeple was delivering the Sun Journal at the time of the crash.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, but police suggested a medical issue or fatigue could be a factor.
