MC Hammer, the rapper and dancer who was among the biggest rap stars of the 1990s, will bring his Hammer’s House Party tour to the Cross Insurance Center this summer.
The tour, which will feature MC Hammer and guests Doug E. Fresh, Rob Base, DJ Kool, Tag Team and others, is set for Friday, June 21, at the Cross Center. Tickets, starting at $39, go on sale March 22 via Ticketmaster.
The tour is organized by Parachute Concerts, the promotion group that also brought the I Love The 90s tours to the Cross Center in 2016 and 2017, as well as last year’s concert from Ja Rule and Ashanti.
MC Hammer shot to fame in 1990 with his No. 1 hit single “U Can’t Touch This,” followed by “2 Legit 2 Quit” in 1991, the videos for which feature Hammer’s flashy dance moves and iconic “Hammer” pants. In the late 1990s, Hammer put out a series of Christian albums before coming back to mainstream hip-hop in the mid-2000s. He has had a number of other business ventures in addition to his music career, including owning a racehorse stable, managing mixed martial arts fighters, launching several technology ventures, and serving as a spokesperson for companies and brands including Pepsi, Taco Bell, KFC, Toshiba, 3M, Nationwide Insurance and Starburst candy.
Joining MC Hammer on the tour will be early hip-hop pioneers including beatboxing master Doug E. Fresh, platinum-selling rapper Rob Base, DJ Kool and Tag Team (“Whoomp! There It Is”).
Other concerts set for the Cross Insurance Center include an after-party for the upcoming Phish concerts at the Bangor waterfront featuring jam band Pink Talking Fish on June 25, and comedian Ron White on July 26.
