Verve Burritos in Bangor closed this week.

Verve Burritos, the casual lunch eatery that first opened in downtown Orono in 2009 before expanding to Bangor in 2013, has closed both locations over the past few weeks.

Owner Tabitha Johnson closed the Orono eatery, located at 2 Mill St., in early February. As of this week, the Bangor location at 91 Main St. is also closed. A sign on the door in Bangor said the location was closed and apologized for the inconvenience, and Abe Furth, the owner of both buildings in Orono and Bangor, confirmed the shops’ closure.

Abe and Heather Furth originally opened Verve Burritos in 2009 in Orono, offering burritos, quesadillas, smoothies and coffee. The Bangor location followed four years later. The Furths extensively renovated both buildings before opening both locations. In June 2018, they sold Verve Burritos to Tabitha Johnson, a longtime manager at the Bangor location, but retained ownership of the buildings.

Abe Furth said he and Heather Furth are already working to find a new tenant for the Bangor space.

“We’re sorry to see Verve close, but we are dedicated to downtown Bangor and we are doing our best to find a new business for that space,” he said. “We want to make sure they are used and that people can continue to enjoy them.”
