Matt Fleming of Bangor, Anna DeWolfe of Greely of Cumberland Center and Faith Blethen of Boothbay, who have led their teams to state championship games, are among the semifinalists for the annual Mr. and Miss Maine Basketball awards symbolic of the state’s top high school senior players.

Fleming, a 6-foot-6 forward whose Bangor team faces Bonny Eagle of Standish for the Class AA title Saturday night at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland, is one of three finalists named for the Mr. Maine Basketball award.

The two other Mr. Maine Basketball finalists also are from Class AA North schools in 6-4 forwards Wol Maiwen of Edward Little of Auburn and Ben Onek of Deering of Portland.

DeWolfe is joined as a Miss Maine Basketball finalist by 6-2 center Mackenzie Holmes of Gorham and 6-1 forward Faith Blethen of Boothbay, who will lead the Seahawks into Saturday night’s Class C state final against Penobscot Valley of Howland at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

Fleming will continue his basketball career next year at Division I Army West Point, while Maiwen and Onek are undecided on their collegiate futures.

Fleming, Maiwen and Onek were selected from a field of semifinalists that also included Ashtyn Abbott of Hall-Dale of Farmingdale, Zach Brown of Greely, Nick Fiorillo of Scarborough, John Martin of Gray-New Gloucester, Andrew Storey of Greely, Cooper Wirkala of Oceanside of Rockland and Cam Wood of Winthrop.

DeWolfe, a 5-7 guard, will attempt to lead the Greely girls team to its second straight Class A state title Friday night when the South champion Rangers play Hampden Academy at the Augusta Civic Center.

All three Miss Maine Basketball finalists plan to continue their basketball careers at NCAA Division I programs, Blethen at George Washington University, DeWolfe at Fordham University and Holmes at Indiana.

Other Miss Maine Basketball semifinalists were Annie Cooke of Skowhegan, Bailey Donovan of Hampden Academy, Delaney Haines of Deering of Portland, Brianna Jordan of Gray-New Gloucester, Grace Martin of Biddeford, McKenzy Ouellette of Massabesic of Waterboro and Katie Whitmore of South Portland.

The 2019 Mr. and Miss Maine Basketball winners will be announced during the Maine McDonald’s Senior All-Star Banquet set for Friday, March 8, at the Anna Shrine Hall in Bangor.
