Bangor and Hampden players among semifinalists for Mr. and Miss Maine Basketball awards

Matt Fleming of Bangor and Hampden Academy’s Bailey Donovan are among the semifinalists for the Mr. and Miss Maine Basketball awards, it was announced on Wednesday.

Fleming’s North region counterparts among the boys semifinalists are Cooper Wirkala of Oceanside High School in Rockland and Wol Maiwen of Edward Little in Auburn. The remaining candidates include two from Greely High of Cumberland Center in Andrew Storey and Zach Brown.

Nick Fiorillo of Scarborough, Ben Onek of Deering High in Portland, John Martin of Gray-New Gloucester, Winthro’s Cam Wood and Ashlyn Abbott of Hall-Dale in Farmingdale are the other boys candidates.

Donovan’s North counterparts among the Miss Maine Basketball semifinalists are Annie Cook of Skowhegan and Deering’s Delaney Haines. The remaining candidates are: Anna DeWolfe of Greely, Mackenzie Holmes of Gorham, Faith Blethen of Boothbay and Bri Jordan of Gray-New Gloucester, Katie Whitmore of South Portland, Biddeford’s Grace Martin and McKenzy Ouellette of Massabesic High in Waterboro.

The Miss Maine Basketball and Mr. Maine Basketball honors are presented annually to the top senior player in the state.
