Neighbors along Highland Lake in North Windham say a deer was spotted on thin ice Sunday morning and was stranded for several hours.

Photos captured by those at the lake show the deer knelt down in the middle of the lake.

[The deer he shot jumped off a cliff, but that was just the beginning of the adventure]

Neighbors said the Maine Warden Service responded Sunday evening with a fan boat and were able to rescue the stranded doe.

Witnesses said once wardens got the deer off the ice it quickly ran off into the woods.
