HENNIKER, N.H. — Arika Brochu scored two goals, the second in overtime, to lift the Husson University Eagles by the Thomas College Terriers 2-1 in New England Collegiate Conference field hockey championship on Sunday.
The goal came off a penalty corner from Sadie Royer with 4:01 left in the first overtime period. Royer sent a pass to the top of the arc to Brochu, who rifled a shot to the bottom right of the cage and past goalkeeper MacKenzie Oberholzer.
Brochu scored the first goal six minutes into the game and Thomas equalized at the 27-minute mark when Lindsey Gregoire scored off a rebound.
Andrea Shaggy finished with 11 saves for Husson of Bangor (5-12) while Oberholzer had four for Thomas of Waterville (12-8).
It was the eighth championship title for the Eagles and their first NECC crown. Husson, one of three North Atlantic Conference schools with field hockey, joined with the four-member NECC for an alliance championship.
The alliance champion does not receive an automatic berth to the NCAA Division III tournament.
