Westbrook police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run. They say the driver was last seen driving toward Gorham.

This fatal crash happened Tuesday around 7:20 p.m. at the intersection of William Clarke Drive and Stroudwater Street.

Police say a SUV struck a woman walking in the street and then took off.

That woman died at the scene.

Police have not released the victim’s identity but say she was a 51-year-old woman.

The intersection was closed for more than three hours Tuesday night while police reconstructed the scene.

Police say they have some leads but at this point they have not found the driver.

“Officers with the Westbrook and Windham police are reconstructing the accident, and our criminal investigation is currently working on any and all leads to find out who struck the pedestrian,” Capt. Sean Lally of the Westbrook Police Department said.

Police say the SUV was last seen traveling toward Gorham.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or saw the driver leave is urged to call the police.
