BANGOR, Maine — The second-ranked RH Foster Riverdogs of Hampden beat No. 3 Brewer 9-1 in a Zone 1 American Legion first-round baseball game at Husson University’s Winkin Complex on Friday.
No. 4 Skowhegan also picked up a win as it edged No 5 Post 51 2-1 in the prelim game, which started on Thursday and was completed on Friday.
Riverdogs pitcher Nick Guerrette shut down the Falcons as he scattered seven hits over nine innings while striking out eight and not walking a batter.
Casey Sudbeck sparked the Hampden offense with three hits and three RBIs while Josh Palmeter and Max Thomas each chipped in with two hits. Thomas also drove in two runs as did Gavin Partridge.
Jack Corey tripled and singled for Brewer and Alex Brooks had a hit and an RBI.
In the prelim game, Dustin Crawford pitched 8 ⅓ innings of seven-hit baseball with four strikeouts and no walks to lead Skowhegan to the victory. Chase Malloy came on to earn the save.
Brendan Curran led the Skowhegan offense with three hits while Adam Turcotte drove in a run.
Noah Tuttle had two hits for Post 51.
Skowhegan was scheduled to play No. 1 Bangor at 8 p.m. Friday.
Brewer will play the loser of that game at 1 p.m. Saturday while Hampden will take on the winner at 4 p.m.

Bucksport 12, Acadia 1
At Bucksport on Thursday, Ty Giberson gave up just a run and struck out five in 4 ⅓ innings to leda Bucksport by Acadia in the District 1 Junior League tourney.
Tyler Hallett recorded two hits and Brady Findlay scored three runs for the winners.
Porter Issacs singled for Acadia.

Brewer, Old Town post wins
At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor on Thursday, Holbrook-Brewer-Orrington and Old Town each recorded their second victories of the District 3 Junior League tourney.
H-B-O (2-1) defeated Bangor 7-4 in an elimination game and Old Town stopped Bronco-Hermon 7-4.
In the first game, Anthony Chiappone slammed a two-run triple to highlight H-B-0’s three-run first inning, which was aided by three errors.
Chiappone also doubled for H-B-O and Connor Young chipped in with a double and RBI.
Wilson Higgins singled twice and drove in two runs for Bangor (1-2) while Ben Caron added a double.
In the second game, Old Town (2-0) rallied for four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to erase a three-run deficit and take the lead for good.
Tanner Evans sparked Old Town with three singles and Seth Haverlock added a double and a single.
Kolby Moore singled twice and drove in two runs for Bronco-Hermon (1-1) and Thomas Knott added two singles.
