A woman whose body was found earlier this week on the side of Route 193 in Cherryfield has been identified as 55-year-old Sally Shaw.
Maine State Police Lt. Troy Gardner, at a press conference Friday afternoon, released Shaw’s identity but not her cause of death.
Shaw’s body was discovered around dawn Wednesday morning by a passing motorist. Police said Wednesday they believe Shaw was associated to the black 2017 Chevy Impala that was found with front end damage at the intersection of Route 193 and Route 9. Police believe the accident and Shaw’s death are related.
Gardner confirmed that connection Friday. The vehicle, which had been rented from a rental car agency in Bangor, had been rented in Shaw’s name, Gardner said.
He also said that police have learned that she has previously worked in health care and “may have been employed as a [certified nursing assistant] in the past.”
Gardner said police believe she had ties to the Washington County area, as well as southern Maine.
The investigation is ongoing, and Gardner urged any member of the public with helpful information, as well as anyone who knew Shaw, to contact the State Police in Bangor, at 207-973-3700.
