CARIBOU, Maine — A 76-year-old Presque Isle man who allegedly resisted a no-trespassing order in December 2015 and pushed a Presque Isle police sergeant off a front-end loader before trying to drive away was indicted on multiple charges this week by the Aroostook County grand jury.
Geary Bonville, a longtime trucker, mechanic and Presque Isle scrap yard owner, was among the nearly three dozen individuals indicted by the grand jury, which completed its third session of the year on Friday, according to District Attorney Todd Collins.
Bonville was driving a front-end loading tractor on the property of another nearby scrap yard he used to own at 204 Chapman Road when the new owner contacted police on Dec. 23, 2015, to report that he was being harassed, Presque Isle Police Chief Matt Irwin reported back in December.
When Presque Isle Sgt. Eric Erickson arrived, he informed Bonville he was trespassing. Erickson climbed onto the loader, put it in neutral and told Bonville that he needed to get off and was under arrest, Irwin said at the time.
Bonville then pushed Erickson back and at the same time put the loader into gear, sending Erickson “flying out” onto the ground on his back, Irwin said.
Erickson was taken by ambulance to The Aroostook Medical Center in Presque Isle for treatment and subsequently released. Bonville was arrested on a charge of assault on an officer and later released on $2,000 bail, Irwin said.
This week, the grand jury indicted Bonville in connection with that incident on charges of assault on an officer, reckless conduct with a weapon, refusing to submit, criminal trespass and aggravated criminal mischief.
