The Kenduskeag Valley Golf Course in Kenduskeag is for sale.

Jim Poole, who has owned the course since 2003, has moved to Hawaii and has put the nine-hole course on the market, according to Sandy Preston, the town clerk in Kenduskeag.

“We have had a number of inquiries about it, but nothing official has happened,” said Preston.

The course was designed by Bob Girvan and opened in 1958. Parts of the course run alongside the Kenduskeag Stream.

It is 2,562 yards long and is a par 34.

Preston said the 77-acre property is evaluated at $625,260. In addition to the golf course, it also includes the Wrong Turn Pub and a house. The restaurant/pub is part of the clubhouse.

Poole and his wife, Sandra, bought the course from Ed and Lucille Koncinsky and moved to Kenduskeag from Tampa, Florida.

In 2007, the Pooles tore down the original buildings, including the farmhouse that served as the golf shop and a residence. They replaced it with the Wrong Turn Pub restaurant and clubhouse along with the house.

The clubhouse can seat 50 but can hold up to 80 for special occasions.

Poole also made significant alterations to the course that he completed in 2012.

That included a new third green, which created a short par 4; a long par 4, which combined the rest of the par-5 third hole with the short, par-3 fourth and a new tee box on No. 8, which transformed a par 3 with a blind tee shot into a short par 4.

Preston hopes it remains a golf course.

“We hope to keep it as a business in town,” said Preston. “It’s good for the town.”
