PORTLAND, Maine — Elite Airways said it will expand its service to an Orlando-area airport and add a new connection to the southwest Florida city of Naples.

Portland-based Elite said it will offer flights to Naples through the Orlando Melbourne International Airport starting Feb. 29. The airline also plans to offer more flights into the Orlando-area airport.

Paul Bradbury, director of the Portland International Jetport, said the company’s service to Florida — the biggest market for flights out of Maine — has been a hit since starting in the fall.

“The continuation of the flight on to Naples will give us access to southwest Florida, which we believe will be very popular among local flyers,” Bradbury said in a news release.

The flights out of the municipal airport in Naples are part of the Portland airport’s expanded presence there. The Naples Daily News reported the airline signed an agreement last fall to start commercial flights there and the airport made improvements to accommodate the return of commercial airline service.

The airline began offering direct flights from Portland to Florida in December.
