MACHIAS, Maine — The University of Maine-Presque Isle Owls surged to a 21-point lead and then held off the UM-Machias Clippers 61-50 in women’s basketball action Thursday night.
Sydney Churchill paced UMPI (3-15) with 18 points, four rebounds, three steals and two assists. Brianna Losee chipped in with 16 points, three steals and two assists for the Owls while Holli Boyce and Janae Libby each netted seven points.
Shannon Garland recorded 20 points and eight rebounds to lead UMM (2-10). Alicen Brooks chipped in with 17 points and five rebounds while Angleana Lyons added nine points.

UMPI 70, UMM 66
At Machias, Nick Lenhard hit a free throw with six seconds left and Chase Vicaire made two with a second remaining to secure the win for the University of Maine-Presque Isle.
Jorge Milo had hit a 3-pointer for UMM with seven seconds left to cut UMPI’s lead to 67-66.
Vicaire finished with 18 points and five rebounds to lead UMPI (8-9). Kim Collins chipped in with 14 points and five rebounds while Maurice Harris added 10 points.
Brandon Blakely paced UMM (8-5) with 19 points and Ivory Sneed added 15 points and 10 rebounds. Milo finished with 14 points. Ben Teer chipped in with nine points, eight rebounds and five assists. UMM had a 42-31 rebounding edge.
