CARIBOU, Maine — With temperatures expected to dip to about freezing Thursday evening, much of northern Maine is under a frost advisory and freeze warning, according to the National Weather Service.

Frost advisories are in effect for Oxford, Franklin, Somerset, Piscataquis and Penobscot counties through 8 a.m. Friday starting at midnight, according to the National Weather Service’s Caribou forecast center.

Temperatures in those areas are expected to fall into the mid to upper 30s.

In addition, a freeze warning is in effect for northern Penobscot county and Aroostook county from 2-8 a.m. Friday.

Temperatures could fall below 30 degrees in those areas.

Crops or vegetation left outside could be killed in freezing temperatures.
