SOUTH THOMASTON, Maine — The South Thomaston administrator is resigning after a little more than a year on the job.
John Spear will serve through May 8, according to the town. The Board of Selectmen is seeking applications for his successor.
Spear said he was retiring and that he had told the board when he was hired for the position in December 2013 that he would be there for a couple of years at the most. He said he might take on interim posts if they become available, but he was not interested in longer term jobs.
His wife, a school teacher, is retiring in June.
Before being hired by South Thomaston, he served as Waldoboro’s town manager.
He was hired for the Waldoboro job after being the longtime business manager for the former School Administrative District 50, which merged with SAD 5 to become Regional School Unit 13.
Spear is a South Thomaston resident and served as a selectman several times over the past 10 years.
