ROCKLAND, Maine — A jury voted Tuesday to award a Lincolnville woman $17,000 as a result of a car crash nearly a decade ago.

But the amount was less than an offer made earlier by the driver of the other vehicle.

Judith Gilbert filed a lawsuit in July 2011 in Knox County Superior Court as a result of a July 23, 2005, car crash on Mountain Street in Camden.

In the lawsuit, she claimed that Marvin Lembark of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, made a U-turn on the street and struck her vehicle. Gilbert said she suffered a neck injury as a result of the crash and incurred medical bills and lost wages, according to the lawsuit.

A Knox County jury issued its verdict Tuesday following a two-day trial and voted to award Gilbert $17,000. This was less than the $20,000 offered by the defendant to settle the civil case prior to the trial.

Lembark’s attorney J. William Druary Jr. of Waterville said Wednesday that the $17,000 verdict was a reasonable one and that his client would not appeal.

Gilbert was represented by attorney David Glasser of Rockport. He did not immediately return a telephone message left with his office Wednesday morning.
