CARIBOU, Maine — Fresh snow has already started to fall in Aroostook County, and it is expected to come down throughout the day Friday.

“We’ve been getting snow for a few hours now,” National Weather Service forecaster Maureen Hastings said from the Caribou office shortly before 9 a.m.

Hastings expects central and northern regions of the County to get the most snow, particularly in the St. John Valley. Six to 10 inches are expected, while southern reaches of the County will see anywhere from 2 to 6 inches.

Northern Penobscot, Somerset and Piscataquis counties could see 4-6 inches, while the Bangor area is likely to experience all rain.

The weather service has issued a winter storm warning for Aroostook and northern Somerset, Penobscot and Piscataquis counties while southern Aroostook and central Piscataquis counties are under a winter weather advisory.

Hastings said wind gusts of up to 30 miles per hour are expected, but winds won’t remain high like they were with last weekend’s snowstorm.

The storms was expected to wrap up by Friday evening.
