2 men injured in floatplane crash north of Telos

Two men suffered minor injuries in a floatplane crash in which the plane’s engine stopped, a wing hit a tree and the plane spun to the ground north of the Telos area, officials said Saturday.

The plane’s pilot, Gary L. Norris of Augusta, and his passenger, Robert Wheelock, were both treated at Millinocket Regional Hospital, according to a report filed by state police Sgt. Chad Fuller. The crash was reported at 9:13 p.m. Friday. Millinocket Assistant Fire Chief Thomas Malcolm said one of the men suffered a cut to his head.

Both men went by truck to the Telos Checkpoint in Township 5, R11 to meet the ambulance, but decided to drive themselves to the hospital, Malcolm said.

The Federal Aviation Administration was notified of the crash and an inspector from the Portland office will be at the scene on Sunday, officials said.
