BELFAST, Maine — A motorist driving an unregistered 1984 Corvette without a license Wednesday night led police on a brief chase through downtown Belfast.

The chase came to an end when David E. Connors, 53, of Searsport, ended up crashing the car behind Belfast District Court, according to Chief Mike McFadden of the Belfast Police Department.

It began a little before 11 p.m., when Officer Dan Fitzpatrick noticed a car being driven downtown had no license plates and also had a headlight out.
He signaled the driver to pull over, but instead Connors turned onto Cross Street, McFadden said.

“The officer turned his siren on and gave chase,” he said.

The Corvette progressed onto Spring Street and over High Street before crashing in the parking lot behind the court, the chief said. There was minimal property damage done.

Connors was charged with the criminal offenses of driving to endanger, operating without a license, failure to stop for an officer and operating an unregistered motor vehicle past 150 days. He also was issued civil summonses for failure to stop at a stop sign, not having an inspection sticker, not having proof of insurance, possession of a usable amount of marijuana and a seat belt violation.

He was arrested and taken to Waldo County Jail in Belfast to be charged.

    1. That’s what I was thinking.  Should have just cuffed him to the wreck and left him there until court this morning.

      1. Please don’t think that I’m picking on you, Todd, and I agree with your [good] thought, but I’d modify it slightly…Everyone grows older, but some never grow up.

        1. “age does not always bring wisdom, sometimes it arrives alone”  (I have no idea who’s quote that is)

  1. 2nd person arrest this week already near the law, first in skowhegan now in belfast.  I guess they are trying to save the taxpayers some money in transportation fees!

  2. Ironic, today is the 59th Birthday of the Corvette. Perhaps he wanted to celebrate in jail

  3. A further check on Connors discovered 732 overdue library books from various towns within Maine.

  4. Minimal property damage….does that include damage to the car? I might be interested in restoring the wreck!

  5. Looks like they threw the book at him!  Darn……hell will be another one of those goofy dressed guys riding his bicycle down the side of the rode in the winter that I’ll have to watch out for.

Sure looks like Belfast P.D. needs to get a 6′ tall pink Bunny suit……………………  Judge, “Were you drunk?”  “No your honor”.   Judge, “Then what happened to you?”   “Well your honor, you won’t believe this but a 6′ tall pink bunny beat the cra_ out of me”.   Judge “Guilty”.

  6. Just one question…….Did his girlfriend recently shave his head?   I mean, sometimes these things are connected………….
