Guess he never has been to Reds in Westcasset.
or the Eagles Nest in Brewer…….
Thae Eagles Nest’s lobster meat is “cryovaced” frozen. Give me Reds anytime.
And neither of you have been to Disgusta’s Red Barn and their monster “Crustacean Elation”.
Laura makes the best of everything seafood!
Leave Rt. 1 and you’ll find many places that put Red’s to shame. Red’s happened to have a great location and a well timed article that made them a “fixture”, most “locals” know there’s better lobster rolls (for less) all along the coast.
If only the Whig and Courier was still open…I loved their [greasy] turkey, bacon, and provolone melt. :'(
Shouldn’t Philly have a cheese steak sandwich as its entry???
WoW!
What do you know!—Tampa, Fla. (Skipper’s Smokehouse) — Grouper Reuben
Been their done that !
I still like a good old Maine Haddock Sandwich better!
They have an excellent haddock reuben at Chester Pike in Sullivan.
How many other Maine sandwiches did they try before choosing the one in Naples?
A dagwood at the sandwich man in Calais would knock their socks off.
Still cannot find an italian sandwich outside of Amato’s. Anywhere.
Bennett’s Sandwich shop in Kennebunk. Corner of Route 9 and Sea Road. They have an Italian to die for.
George’s in downtown Biddeford.
You know , you are absolutely right, I have been all over Maine and there surely isin’t any better than Amato’s.
And those that were are no longer available or the family business has closed. Dabiases on Washington Ave, Georges on Pine street are a couple of examples in Portland when i grew up. Amato’s in Portland still have something about them that some of the other Amato locations can’t immitate.
Orvieto in Millinocket, the small white Mom-Pop convenience store on Rt. 1 in Northport, and Sweets and Meats on Main St. in Rockland all have better Italian’s than even the revered India St. Amato’s.
Best sandwich in the State: the Bahn Mi at Saigon on Forest Ave.
Maddies in Mexico was by far the best Italian in the state but they closed down :( The Sandwhich shop in Presque Isle is very good with awesome bread but very skimpy on the meat..
i guess he didnt know about the politician burger at judys
He should take a sampling of the Big G’s menu
Big doesn’t mean better.
Try leaving Bangor once and a while. Big G’s has excellent sandwiches.
That is true as can be seen by getting a party sub from say subway. But a Big G’s sandwich is pretty darn good, and even their mundane sandwiches are pretty good compared to other places.
Is this the resturant in Winslow? I went to one there and it was excellent. Cant remember though if it was called Big G’s or Big J’s. Just wondering. :)
Yep Big G’s is in Winslow
I wrote them on that bout 50 times him and Guy Fie?? whatever his name is, on Diners Drive ins And Dives.. Never heard from them..
Looks delicious!
Naples is a tourist town. That explains why they put lemmon on lobstah.
Augusta has the roasted Lepagge Penquin sandwich smothered with overripe republiken sardines. With a touch of downeast mushroom salsa mustard sauce spewed from uncle rays festive boils and a side of dangerous political rhetroic slaw it came in show. That show is like win, place and show, it makes for a good show.
gee wiz . . . *sigh*
Big Dave Junior at Damon’s in Augusta… Get it toasted with onions… I’ve eaten a thousand of them…
Doesn’t anyone remember that THE EAGLES NEST IN BREWER, was the very best for a Lobster Roll on The travel channel about 5 years ago. My thought at the time was if it was the best in New England then was it not the best, in the world ?
Hot dog roll with lobster and a lil mayo—pretty simple -nothing special at all ..could never understand the big ta do over that.
Attn: BDN reporter.
Can you interview the restaurant owner and state why theirs is the best; perhaps a recipe, ingredient, process in which the sandwich is made better? More info please!
Perhaps there is a news blackout before the televised event? If so, report it…and then follow up with a story answering some of the questions above.
Looks like a great sandwich!
I am surprised the Coffee Pot Sandwich, ( the original) didn’t make the cut….but I prefer The Legacy Sandwich over the Coffee Pot Cafe anyday
