GREENVILLE – William Moyer Bush Jr., 77, died peacefully Thursday evening, Feb. 16, 2012, at his home on Moosehead Lake. Bill was born June 10, 1934, in Binghamton, N.Y., the only child of William M. and Elizabeth (Sisson) Bush.
After graduating from Blair Academy and Lafayette College, Bill held a number of positions with Scott Paper Co., William Underwood Co., W. R. Grace, and DTS, culminating as vice president of administration at Alpha Industries. He also served his country for seven years with the First Troop Philadelphia City Cavalry, a National Guard unit. In 1984, Bill left the corporate world to own and operate Four Corners Shopping Center in Downeast Maine along with his family. After selling much of the shopping center in 2006, Bill and his wife, Jane, spent their winters in Hilton Head, S.C., and their summers in Greenville. Always active in the communities where he lived, Bill was a member of Portland Rotary, where he served as program chairman, and Machias Rotary Club. He was a trustee of Down East Community Hospital and served many years as its president. In recent years, he served as a corporator of Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems, and was active in First Presbyterian Church, Hilton Head, S.C. He was an avid skier, a Labrador lover, and enjoyed golf, tennis, reading, and was a relentless fan of Boston sports teams. Bill loved weekend projects, including building his family’s vacation home on Wilson Pond in Greenville. He will be remembered for his ability to make people laugh with his witticisms, his interest in and ability to befriend anyone anywhere, his business acumen, and as a loyal and devoted husband and father.
Bill is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jane (Jackson); daughter, Betsy of Anchorage, Alaska; son, William III “Billy” of Hong Kong; dear sisters and brothers-in-law, Joan and David Martin of Malvern, Pa., and Sally and Bob Schwabe of Westchester, Pa.; four wonderful nephews, and his yellow lab, Louie.
A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, at Faith United Methodist Church, 444 U.S. Hwy 1, Columbia.
