STILLWATER – Hilda W. Grindle, 86, died Aug. 14, 2011, at a nursing facility in Bangor after a long illness. She was born March 27, 1925, in Stillwater, to Andrew and Agnes Wing.
Hilda lived in the Orono/ Stillwater area all of her life. Hilda was a 1942 graduate of Old Town High School. After graduation she attended Farmington Teachers College for a short while and then in October 1944 she married Charles Grindle of Orono. Hilda worked for the Old Town school system as a private bus driver and as an optometrist’s receptionist. Hilda was a well-known community member and an active member of Stillwater Federated Church. Hilda was a very social woman who loved her family and friends. She was one of five ladies in Stillwater who regularly got together as a friendship group.
Hilda was predeceased by her parents; a stillborn son, Gary; and her husband. She is survived by her loving son, Ross and his wife, Angel; and by her grandson, Andre.
A memorial visitation will be held 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town, where a memorial service will be held 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations are being accepted for Stillwater Federated Church, 336 Bennoch Road, Stillwater, ME 04489.
