BANGOR – Roman Blanke, 37, beloved husband, son and brother, died unexpectedly Aug. 28, 2010, of natural causes at his home. He was born Jan. 14, 1973, in Bangor, son of Richard and Rosemarie (Schoring) Blanke. He was a graduate of Bangor High School and the University of Maine. Roman had recently become an avid home restorer and gardener, and was particularly content simply dreaming-up domestic projects and implementing them with his wife. He was especially fond of the Philadelphia Eagles and the Boston Celtics, spending time with his many friends at the barn, eating French toast on a Sunday morning, and watching movies by his favorite directors. He always had a movie suggestion in any genre for any mood. Roman and his wife were serenely happy, absolutely devoted to each other, and truly each other’s favorite companion. He was also a loyal and affectionate son and stepson, a cheerful and caring brother, a hard-working and conscientious employee and a steadfast friend. Roman was a perpetual optimist who always saw and brought out the best in people. He was very funny, personable, gentle, considerate, resilient in the face of adversity and well liked by all who knew him – a light has gone out in the lives of those who remain. Roman is survived and will be sadly missed by his wife and best friend, Gina Platt of Bangor; his father and stepmother, Richard and Ann (Weldon) Blanke of Bangor; his mother, Rosemarie Blanke of Portland and Bangor; brother, Friedrich Blanke and wife, Sheryl, of Franklin, Ohio; sister, Marie (Blanke) Andrawes and husband, Michael, of Cambridge, Mass.; sister, Claire (Blanke) Enkosky and husband, John, of Syracuse, N.Y.; a special aunt, Annelore (Lollo) Schoring of Munich, Germany; seven nieces and nephews, for whom he was a favorite uncle. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 3, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. Interment will be at a later date. Those who wish to remember Roman in a special way may make gifts in his memory to Bangor Humane Society, 693B Mount Hope Ave., Bangor, ME 04401.
