AUGUSTA, Maine — A Jan. 21 date has been set for Gov. John Baldacci to give his final State of the State address to the Legislature.
The speech will be delivered at 7 p.m. in the House Chamber to a joint House-Senate convention. The governor’s vision of where the state’s been and where it’s going comes amid huge state budget shortfalls, driven by the weakened economy, that threaten a number of programs.
Baldacci said the Legislature’s already done a lot to address the budget challenges, and he believes the benefits will last long after the recession is over.
