NORTHEAST HARBOR – Pamela Melcher, 78, died Oct. 12, 2005, at a Mount Desert Island healthcare facility. She was born April 14, 1927, in Manhattan, N.Y., the daughter of John and Margaret “Betsy” (Flagg) Melcher. Pamela graduated from St. Timothy School in Baltimore, Md. and studied classes in accounting at Columbia University, New York. She worked as an accountant for her grandfather, architect Ernest Flagg, for a number of years. Pamela’s true interests were in painting and poetry. She was nationally known for her poetry and had a one-woman show in New York City of her paintings. She had been a member of the National Women Painters Society. Her strong faith proved to be of great support to her throughout her life. She was a member of St. Mary and St. Jude Episcopal Church, Northeast Harbor. Pamela is survived by her sister, Ursula W. Melcher and life partner, Lyman Spire King; three nephews, Guy, Aymeric and Marc de Fontaines de Logeres Jr. A special thank-you to her caregiver Teresa Rohner, and most especially to her primary caregiver, Tammy Brown. Funeral services will be private. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery, Northeast Harbor.
