The two-time reigning state champion Greely High School defeated No. 5 Kennebunk High School 69-62 Wednesday night in the Class A South boys’ semifinal matchup at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland to earn a trip back to the regional final.
With the victory, the top-seeded Rangers improve to 17-3, while the Rams end their season at 15-5 in the loss.
Kennebunk reached the semifinals by knocking off Leavitt High School, 72-55, in the quarterfinals. Greely got this far by defeating Mt. Ararat High School of Topsham in the quarterfinals, 70-46.
The Rams lost in the quarterfinal round last season to Westbrook High School, 53-32.
The Rangers have won two straight gold balls, beating Hampden Academy last season, 47-46, and Messalonskee High School of Oakland in 2017 by a score of 59-43.
