CHINA, Maine — Two Waterville women have been charged in connection with a stabbing in nearby China earlier this month, state police said Friday.

Carrisa Butkewicz, 23, and Tiffany Glidden, 20, were due in court in Augusta on Friday to face a charge of aggravated attempted murder, according to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland.

The two women turned themselves in last week.

Butkewicz and Glidden are accused of stabbing Katherine Hopkins, 24, while she sat in her car on a fire road off the Neck Road on Nov. 4, according to McCausland.

The suspects texted Hopkins to meet them at that location, where Hopkins was stabbed in the stomach with a kitchen knife, McCausland said.

After the incident, Hopkins reportedly drove a short distance and received medical attention from a local residence until paramedics arrived. McCausland said her condition has improved.

Butkewicz and Glidden had been held at the Kennebec County Jail on charges unrelated to the stabbing after turning themselves in, McCausland said.
