OXFORD, Maine — A man is dead after a fire broke out at his Hogan Pond Road home in Oxford, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland said Wednesday evening.

Peter Lowe, 55, was killed in the blaze, which started in his bedroom, according to McCausland. Lowe lived alone in the waterfront house.

Investigators from the state Fire Marshal’s Office are trying to pinpoint the cause of the blaze and will return to the scene on Thursday, McCausland said. Firefighters arrived on scene shortly after noon.

This is the third fire-related death of 2014, McCausland said. An elderly couple died when a blaze destroyed their home in Elliotsville Plantation on Saturday.
