Saturday’s Frozen Fenway game times moved up to accommodate Patriots fans

The times of Saturday’s Frozen Fenway doubleheader have been moved up to accommodate fans who want to watch the New England Patriots’ American Football Conference playoff game against the Indianapolis Colts.

Fenway Sports Management and Hockey East announced that the first game between UMass Lowell and Northeastern has been moved from 3 p.m. to 2:15 p.m., and the nightcap between Maine and Boston University is scheduled to start at 5:45 p.m. instead of 6:30 p.m.

The Patriots-Colts game in Foxboro is slated for an 8:15 p.m. start.

If there is a weather issue that forces a postponement of the Frozen Fenway games, the make-up date is Sunday.

A fifty percent chance of showers and temperatures in the 40s are in the Weather Channel forecast for Saturday.

Maine interim athletic director Seth Woodcock said he didn’t have any issues with the change.

“It’s fine. We certainly want our fans to be able to watch their favorite football team,” said Woodcock, whose interim post ends when new AD Karlton Creech begins on Feb. 10. “I’m more concerned about the weather for Saturday.

“We’d rather play Saturday. But if the weather doesn’t cooperate, we’ll deal with it,” Woodcock added.

He also said whenever the game is played, coach Red Gendron’s Black Bears “will be ready to play.”
