CHESTERVILLE, Maine — A 17-year-old girl hid in a bedroom Monday morning when a man forced his way through a door in the house on Vienna Road, Franklin County Sheriff Scott Nichols Sr. said Tuesday.

Deputy Nicholas Zecher and Cpl. Nate Bean have identified two suspects and are in the process of connecting with them, he said.

The girl was home alone when a man came to the door and knocked. When no one answered, he forced the door open, Nichols said.

The girl hid in her room and when he came to her room and saw her, he fled.

She reported that she saw a maroon Chevrolet Lumina leaving the scene with two men in it.

Nichols credited the girl, witnesses and quick action by dispatchers to get the information out to police for helping to identify the suspects.

Nothing was stolen during the 9:16 a.m. incident.

The men are known to frequent the Augusta area, he said.

Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office and Maine State Police are assisting deputies with locating the suspects, he said.
