Subaru collides with dump truck at intersection, neither driver seriously hurt

By Ryan McLaughlin, BDN Staff

OAKLAND, Maine — A collision between a Subaru and a dump truck at an Oakland intersection left the Subaru destroyed, police said.

Oakland police Capt. Rick Stubbert said the crash occurred shortly after noon at the intersection of Rice Rips Road and Route 23.

Stubbert said the truck was heading eastbound on Route 23 and the Subaru north on Rice Rips road at the time of the crash. There is a stop sign at the intersection on Rice Rips Road when it interchanges with Route 23.

“That’s usually a bad intersection,” Stubbert said.

The Subaru struck the dump truck on that vehicle’s passenger side, which sent the truck into a utility pole, according to Stubbert.

The pole was broken at the bottom, the captain said, but the pole never snapped nor collapsed, he said.

The names of the drivers were not available. Neither required a trip to the hospital, Stubbert said.
