Union man arrested in connection with theft of three trucks; police seek second suspect

WASHINGTON, Maine — The Maine State Police and the Knox County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the theft of three trucks from the towns of Liberty and Washington early Wednesday morning.

One man has been arrested and a second is being sought.

Daniel Roy, 27, of Union has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and violating bail conditions, according to a news release from the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Police are also looking for 34-year-old Danny Leigh of Washington, according to the release.

The two men are being charged in connection with the theft of two pickup trucks and the tractor of a tractor trailer truck around 3 a.m. Wednesday from houses in Washington and Liberty. Two of the three trucks had the keys inside. Stolen from two residences in Liberty along Route 220 were a 2002 GMC pickup and a 1999 Western Star tractor. Both were recovered nearby.

A Toyota pickup truck, which is still missing, was taken from a home on Crystal Pond Road in Washington. Troopers and deputies arrested Roy at a mobile home in Washington a few hours after beginning their investigation.

Roy was taken to the Knox County Jail in Rockland.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Leigh is asked to call the Knox County Sheriff’s Office or state police in Augusta at 624-7076.
