HARRISON, Maine — The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a robbery that occurred late Wednesday afternoon at Northeast Bank on Main Street.
The robbery happened shortly before 4 p.m., when the robber entered the bank and demanded cash, Capt. Don Goulet said in a news release issued Wednesday evening.
No weapon was used and the suspect did get away with an undisclosed amount of cash, Goulet said. While in the bank, the suspect allegedly assaulted one of the customers, but the customer was not injured.
A description of the suspect was not immediately available.
Police were alerted to the robbery when the Cumberland County Regional Communications Center received an alarm, Goulet said. A Maine State Police trooper who was in Harrison at the time heard police being dispatched to the bank and was at the scene within minutes. The trooper was followed by the Harrison deputy, who secured the bank.
Bank employees and customers provided a description of the suspect, the vehicle used and a license plate number.
The robbery remains under investigation.
