Rhode Island eyeing electricity generated by Bowers Mountain wind farm


CAROLL PLANTATION, Maine — The Providence Journal on Thursday reported that National Grid, an East Coast utility, has signed a proposal to purchase electricity from the Bowers Mountain wind farm to power Rhode Island.

According to the report, National Grid would pay 7.8 cents per kilowatt hour from the farm, proposed by Boston-based First Wind, that would be built in eastern Penobscot County in Maine.

The proposal is subject to approval from the three-member Rhode Island Public Utilities Commission.
