Charles A. Hall

VERNON, Vt. – Charles A. Hall, 79, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2013. Charlie was born June 7, 1933, in Monticello, the oldest of six children to Cecil and Amber (Wotton) Hall.
He graduated from Bridgewater High School in 1952. Charlie married Marilyn “Jeanie” Hallett on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 24, 1955. Charlie started his career with B & A, delivering mail followed by driving charter buses. Law enforcement became Charlie’s life’s work as he joined Presque Isle Police Department in 1965 and later transferred to Aroostook County Sheriff’s Department in the summer of 1974. At the peak of his career in Houlton as jail administrator, Maj. Hall organized the reconstruction of the facility as well as creating positive improvements that benefited many lives. His efforts were motivated by his steadfast belief in correction as opposed to punishment. Charlie loved fishing, TV westerns, dancing, music sharing stories and jokes.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jeanie; three daughters, Laurie Albert and husband, David, Pam Hall, and Kelly Hall; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Cecil Hall, Arlo Hall, Diane David and Elaine Hall.
Services to celebrate Charlie’s life will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, June 1, at Monticello Community Wesleyan Church, 11 Church St., with the Rev. Jason Rooney officiating. A reception at the church will be after. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Aroostook County Crimestoppers, 25 School St., Houlton, ME 04730.
