NEW SHARON, Maine — A collision involving a pickup truck and a tractor-trailer sent a New Sharon man to the hospital on Thursday, according to police.
John Pelletier, 62, was entering Route 2 from his driveway shortly after 4 p.m. when his Ford Ranger was struck by a tractor-trailer operated by Darrell Spaulding, 42, of Sangerville, Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said.
Spaulding, whose Phoenix Trucking rig was not loaded, was unable to avoid Pelletier’s vehicle, which came to rest in a ditch, McCausland said.
Spaulding was not injured in the crash while Pelletier was transported to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington and later to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, the state police spokesman said. No information on Pelletier’s condition was available.
McCausland said alcohol and driver inattention on Pelletier’s part are likely factors in the crash, which State Trooper Reid Bond is investigating.
Route 2 was shut down for four hours while crews cleaned up the scene. Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputies and New Sharon and Farmington firefighters assisted state police.
