GLENBURN and DEER ISLE – Mrs. Cheryl B. Schmidt, 64, died Feb. 28, 2013, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Aug. 2, 1948, in Castine, daughter of Sheridan and Muriel (Conary) Billings.
Cheryl graduated from Deer Isle High School in 1966 and attended Husson College, then moved to Washington, D.C., working in personnel job placement. She returned to Bangor and worked for a radio station in sales and a magazine. While in Bangor, she met the love of her life, Bob, and married him March 21, 1992. For the past 20 years she was a partner and owner of Transport Saving Inc. with husband, Robert Schmidt. Cheryl was an accomplished musician, vocalist and played in many local bands, including her favorite – the family band, the Salty Dogs. She loved shopping, gardening, family gatherings at the camp in Blue Hill and Christmas at the Billings’ family home in Deer Isle. Cheryl was a strong supporter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Paralyzed Veteran’s of America. She always took the time to thank a veteran with a hug and a smile.
She is survived by her husband, Bob and her dog, Semper Fi, of Glenburn; one brother, Glenn and wife, Karen Billings, of Deer Isle; special sister-in-law, Jeanie Billings of Eddington; and five nephews, Michael, Randy, Matthew, Joel and Brian Billings. She was predeceased by her parents; and one brother, Randall Billings.
Friends and relatives may call 1-2 p.m. Saturday, March 9, at Greenlawn Memorial Funeral Home, 300 State St., Bangor, where funeral services will begin 2 p.m. with the Rev. Gary Wilson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to C. A.
