DEER ISLE – Muriel C. Billings, 85, passed away peacefully Feb. 21, 2013. She was born Oct. 28, 1927, in Sunshine, to Maynard and Cecil (Pickering) Conary.
After graduating from McKinley High School, Deer Isle, she attended Eastern Maine Cosmetology School, Brewer. Muriel worked for many years as a beautician at her home salon and was known best for her immaculate appearance. She enjoyed going out on the boat, spending weekends at camp in Blue Hill with her family and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Restoration Branch. Muriel spent many years on the road with her husband Sheridan who played with the “The Merry Mariners” at weddings, anniversary celebrations and other events. Muriel was a very gentle person; she was truly dedicated to her family and will be greatly missed.
She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Sheridan Billings Jr.; and her son, Randall W. Billings. Muriel is survived by her son, Glenn Billings and his wife, Karen; her daughter, Cheryl Schmidt and her husband, Bob; daughter-in-law, Jeanie Billings; grandchildren, Michael Billings, Randall Billings Jr. and his wife, Rachel, Matthew Billings and his wife, Ashley, Joel Billings and his wife, Jenna, and Brian Billings; and great-grandchildren, Hannah, Halle and Charlie Billings.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, at Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, 9 Thurlow’s Hill, Stonington. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Sunshine Advent Christian Home and World Outreach, care of Sunshine Advent Christian Church, 11 Eaton Point Road, Deer Isle, ME 04627.
