CEBOLLITA SPRINGS, N.M. – Rodney E. Gauvin, 70, passed away Friday, Jan. 18, 2013. He was born Aug. 1, 1942, in Caribou, to Romey John Gauvin and Anna Marie Blanchette Gauvin.
He served in the U.S. Navy from June 1961 to June 1965, serving in Vietnam and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of La Verne in Laverne, Calif. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Ouellette Gauvin, Nov. 28, 1964, in Chicopee Falls, Mass. He retired in 1995 after 10 years of employment with Northrop-Grumman. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church. He enjoyed archery, woodworking, photography and also coached soccer when his boys were young and also enjoyed being a dad.
He was predeceased by his parents, Romey John Gauvin and Anna Marie Blacnhette Gauvin; brother, Capt. Roger E. Gauvin; and sister-in-law, Diane McAlester. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy A. Gauvin of Cebollita Springs, N.M.; sons, Keith Gauvin and wife, Jeannette, of Dundee, Ore., and Jeffery Gauvin and wife, Christine, of Shrewsbury, Mass.; grandchildren, Justin Gauvin, Jessica Gauvin, Joshua Gauvin and Rebecca Gauvin; brother, Raymond Gauvin and wife, Connie, of Windham; sister, Doris Thibodeau and husband, Will, of East Hartford, Conn.; sisters-in-law, Pamela Rhodes and husband, Harry, of Cebollita Springs, N.M., Paula Winters and husband, Michael, of Choctaw, Okla., and Roberta Walton of Caribou; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
A memorial Mass will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at Holy Rosary Church, Caribou, with committal services afterward at Maine Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Caribou. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to National Parkinson Foundation, Gift Processing Center, P.O. Box 5018, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5018.
