WASHBURN and BANGOR – Emma Paulina (Bondeson) McDougall, 100, died peacefully Jan. 16, 2013, at her daughter’s home in Dover-Foxcroft. She was born July 4, 1912, in Perham, the daughter of Nels and Johanna (Johnson) Bondeson.
Both her parents were native of Sweden, though her father was born on the high seas in route from Sweden to the United States. She attributed her longevity to not only being a tough Swede but her love of laughter. Emma enjoyed reading, puzzling and knitting. She made the best mittens in the world.
Surviving are two daughters, Elva “Ellie” Hills and her husband, Hollis, of Sullivan and Debora “Debbie” Voter and her husband, Dexter, of Dover-Foxcroft; five sons, Douglas McDougall and his wife, Jeanette, of Gorham, Gordon McDougall of Augusta, Willard McDougall and his wife, Louise, Morris McDougall and his wife, Bettina, all of Virginia, and Stephen McDougall and his wife, Tina, of East Corinth; a son-in-law, Gareth Johnson of New Sweden; daughter-in-law, Valerie McDougall of Bangor; 22 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Glenwood, she was predeceased by a daughter, Elizabeth “Betty” Johnson; a son, Bernard McDougall; five grandsons and three brothers.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Barry Blackstone, pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church of Ellsworth, officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor, after the service Monday. Spring interment will be at Riverside Extension Cemetery, Washburn.
