Winthrop police seeking 4 men suspected of home invasion, robbing elderly woman

By Ryan McLaughlin, BDN Staff

WINTHROP, Maine — Police are seeking four male suspects who robbed an elderly woman early Sunday morning.

Winthrop police Chief Joseph Young said two of the men were armed with handguns.

Shortly after midnight Sunday, the suspects knocked on the door of the home of a 71-year-old woman, according to Young.

The men pushed by her as she opened the door, knocking her to the floor, the chief said. She was not injured.

The suspects were seeking prescription drugs, Young said, and when they couldn’t find any, the victim handed the men an undisclosed amount of cash, and they left.

“We’re confident we’re going to be able to make an arrest,” said Young.

Anybody with information on the case should call Winthrop police at 377-7227 and ask for Det. Peter Struck.
