SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. — The U19 Maine Majestix Black field hockey team defeated Fairfield County United 4-3 in overtime to capture the championship game of the New England Regional Indoor Qualifier Tournament over the weekend at Mount Holyoke College.
The 20-team tourney included top club teams from the New England states as well as New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
The Majestix scored 45 goals and allowed 10 in seven games to successfully defend its championship from last year.
The team will continue its training at the Alfond Youth Center and Thomas College in Waterville to prepare for the National Indoor Tournament in early March in Richmond, Va.
Majestix team members are Sarah Finnemore of Skowhegan, Julia Ward and Maddie Cummings of Belfast, Bethany Winkin and Brooke Haskell of Winslow, Kristy Bernatchez and Lynnae Luettich of Messalonskee in Oakland and Elise Tilton of John Bapst in Bangor.
The Maine Majestix U16 team also competed in an age-group tourney and finished fifth out of 16 teams from New England, New Jersey and Pennsylvania to earn a spot at the National Indoor Tournament.
The team is preparing to compete against top qualifiers at the National Indoor Tourney in Virginia Beach in early March.
Team members are Ally Leighton and Emily Hogan of Messalonskee, Rhianna and Kersey Boulay of Mount View in Thorndike, Delaney Wood and Mackenzie Winslow of Winslow, Kapriece Dahms of Lawrence in Fairfield and Jackie Thorbjornson of Oceanside in Rockland.
