CARMEL and HERMON – Margaret Elaine (Hewes) Bachelder, 79, wife of the late Calvin P. Bachelder, whom she missed sorely, died Dec. 6, 2012, surrounded by her loving family at a Bangor hospital after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born Nov. 4, 1933, in South Brewer, the daughter of Edwin S. and Edith A. (Sprague) Hewes.
She is survived by a son, Calvin Bachelder Jr. of Carmel; a daughter, Cindy Bachelder and her significant other, Bill Murr, of Carmel who was most instrumental in the care of Margaret and whom she loved dearly like a son; three granddaughters, Victoria York-Watson of Tennessee, Lacey Reidy and her partner, John Parker, of Hermon and Kelly Reidy and her partner, Nicholas Worster, of Carmel; one great-granddaughter, Ashlyn Parker; one great-grandson, John Parker III; a beloved sister, Jeannette Lord and her husband, Lester, of Brewer who she absolutely adored; and Earl Hewes, like a brother to Margaret; special nieces and nephews, Edith and Brian Wardwell of Orrington, Lester “Bub” Lord and his wife, Valerie, of Levant, Lisa Mayor of Florida, Darren and Heidi Lord of Winterport, and other nieces and nephews. Margaret loved animals, especially her granddogs, Roscoe and Spruce, that loved and watched over her and they will miss her terribly. She enjoyed playing cards at her sister’s home. Margaret was an avid bingo player for many years and had a lot of bingo friends including her beloved cousin, Phyllis Blaisdell and her daughter, Diane, both of Corinna. She will also be missed by her closest friends, Nora Snow of Bangor and Carvel “Sonny” and Debbie Brooker of Levant. Margaret was loved and adored by many. In addition to her husband, Calvin, she was predeceased by her parents; her twin brother, Carol “Buddy” Hewes; a son, Donald Bachelder; brothers, Clarence, Robbie, Roy, Paul, Harold, Cal and Jerry; and a special niece, Sandra Lord. The family extends a special thank you to CancerCare of Maine, Lafayette Cancer Center, Dr. Sinclair and the staff at Eastern Maine Medical Center, especially nurses Jen and Holly.
