James ‘Jim’ E. Rogers, Sr.

JUPITER, FLA. – James “Jim” E. Rogers Sr., 89, formerly of Madison, Conn., and Norwood, N.J., died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012, after a short stay at Hospice by the Sea, Boca Raton, Fla. Jim was born July 9, 1923, in Idetown, Pa., son of Andrew and Ruth Parks Rogers.

He attended Sacred Heart School and Mount Saint Charles Academy. He was a World War II veteran, proudly serving in the U.S. Army with distinction, meriting the rank of first lieutenant through his notable leadership skills and expertise in radio electronics, which paved the way for earning a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Brown University, where he was a member of Theta Delta Chi. He enjoyed an accomplished career of 38 years with Kerite Co., retiring as vice president and general manager. Jim formed lifelong friendships with his business associates. His children could always rely on him for home repair projects and for providing wisdom and guidance on life and careers. He possessed a notably positive outlook and an equally remarkable ability to recall names, places and details throughout his life. Jim took pleasure in playing golf and serving in volunteer capacities on various boards of directors, including Jonathan’s Landing homeowners association. He served as commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2871, Woodbridge, Conn. Family was his number one priority and he was extraordinarily generous in providing his children with a loving home and every opportunity for success and happiness.

Jim was predeceased by his twin brother, Ted; brother, Andy; sister, Ruth McLean; and beloved wife, Emily, who was mother to the children. He is survived by daughters, Janice Rogers of Chatham, Mass., Barbara Delacruz and her husband, Jose, of Boca Raton, Fla., and Ruth Rogers; and son, James E. Rogers Jr. and his wife, Beth, of Bangor. He is also survived by his loving wife, Joan; grandchildren, Amy Howard and husband, Justin, John Delacruz, Becky Bennett and husband, Sean, James Delacruz, James E. Rogers III, Katie Delacruz, Jeff Rogers and Alex Hillman; and six great-grandchildren, Josiah, Simeon, Judah and Elijah Howard, Ava and Aviana Bennett.

Interment with military honors will be at Rockland Cemetery, Sparkill, N.Y. Donations may be made in Jim’s name to Mount Saint Charles Academy, Donald Demers, Department of Advancement, 800 Logee Street, Woonsocket, RI 02895 or demers@mountsaintcharles.org.
